5 Steps For Summer Haircare

5 Steps For Summer Haircare

Do you change up your summer haircare routine? Proper haircare is crucial during the summer months. With the weather changes, hair can become extremely dry and sources such as chlorinated pool water can cause harmful effects to your hair.

Here are 5 steps to haircare during the summer!

1. Wet Your Hair
If your going into ocean or pool water often, you need to shield your hair from the damaging effects of chlorine. One way to do this is by wetting your hair. Did you know that wet hair will absorb less chlorine than if your hair is dry? You should always wet your hair before you go into water. This will help prevent or reduce chlorine absorption.

2. Deep Condition
If there’s ever a time that a deep conditioning treatment is needed, it’s during those hot summer months where the  heat can draw the moisture out of your hair. Giving yourself a weekly deep conditioning treatment, to restore the moisture back into your hair is very important. You might need to deep condition twice a week to ensure enough moisture is going into your hair especially if you frequent chlorinated or sea salt water.

3. Protection from the Sun
Yes, your hair needs protection from the sun! It is a great way to prevent damage, as well as protecting your hair and scalp from sun damage which can cause dryness, brittleness and frizz. The sun causes the hair cuticle to open, allowing moisture to be removed. The result is dry, frizzy hair, fading hair color or lightened natural color. But don’t worry, Irie’Roots has some great products that keep UV & Thermal Protection in mind.

4. Water
Drink plenty of water, it is a great way to ensure you are hydrated and a great benefit to your hair and skin!  Drinking enough water helps energize and support hair growth from root to tip. It also fosters a healthier scalp. The US National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine say that men and women should aim for drinking at least 15.5 cups and 11.5 cups respectively. However, it’s always best to consult with your doctor for what’s best for you!
